Panoramic views, good wine, liquors and food is what this tur is about. So we start the tour with a 25 serpentines of old road over Boka Bay. You will find out why this road is must do in Montenegro.

NJEGUSI + 25 serpentine

We start from Kotor and climb on the old road from the time of the Kingdom of Montenegro. It is a road that calls for adventure, and the story of that road hides the legend of one love. Referred to as the ‘serpentine road’, the road has 25 switchbacks and gives you incredible views of the Bay of Kotor. This village which is located between Kotor and Lovćen National Park was once a historical power of old Montenegro. The country was ruled by a bishop, prince bishop and serdar, who was responsible for defense. Both positions were passed down the family lines in the clans based in Njeguši, which made Njeguši an important place. The most famous Njegušan is Petar II Petrović Njegoš, who was the Montenegrin bishop from 1830 to 1851. Njegoš, as he is known, was born in the only two-story house in Njeguši, and the house is now a museum. The house and furniture show the way a typical Montenegrin family of the upper class lived in the 19th century.

LOVCEN MAUSOLEM

After Njegus, we will visit the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic-Njegos. Petar II Petrović Njegoš was more than just the Prince-Bishop of Montenegro. He was a philosopher and a poet, and beyond that, he was a beloved political and cultural leader. Njegoš requested to be buried at a tiny chapel he had built before his death in 1851. After he passed, his body was interred in the humble chapel, but it was not to rest there indefinitely. Unfortunately, the tiny chapel was severely damaged during the war and his body was moved to its current mountaintop home. More than a hundred years later in 1974, Montenegrin authorities replaced Njegoš’s burial chapel with an impressive mausoleum designed by someone who had never been to the mountain, inciting protests among a number of citizens. We will pass 441 steps and we will reach the most impressive part of the mausoleum, the chapel that has 6 sides and a beautiful ceiling covered with over 200,000 gilded tiles that create a fascinating mosaic. We will enjoy the beautiful view of Boka Kotorka and continue the journey When we finish visiting the mausoleum, we will discover authentic Montenegrin culture and cuisine in the village of Njeguši. You can try and buy local products such as prosciutto, cheese, wine and more.

CETINJE

From Njegus we go to Cetinje, where you will have free time to enjoy sightseeing in the capital of Montenegro. In the center of the town where we first stop, you will see the bequest of the most important Montenegrins, the Petrovic Dynasty, which ruled the country for over 200 years: Biljarda - the residence of the bishop, writer, and philosopher Petar II Petrovic Njegos, King Nikola’s Palace, Monastery of Cetinje… Petrovics were constantly struggling against Turks for the independence of their homeland and finally gained it at the end of the 19th century and attracted various European countries to open their embassies in this small town.  By visiting King Nikola’s palace our tour guide will introduce you to the life of the Royal Family Petrovic. You will also have free time to feel the peaceful atmosphere of Cetinje, explore the former embassies, or refresh in a café.

Satisfied, we will try the zip line. Zip line Njeguši is located at 980 meters above sea level. While traveling from one end of the railway to the other, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Bay of Kotor.

RIVER CRNOJEVICA AND SKADAR LAKE

On the 16th km on the road from Cetinje to Podgorica, there is a visibly marked board, on which there is a road sign for Rijeka Crnojevica. That area of Montenegro and Cetinje will hardly be uninteresting for you, because in the past, especially in the period of the reign of King Nikola it was used as a winter king’s residence, and because of its unusual beauty and natural surrounding it got the name “Montenegrin Nice”. Of that best speaks its more and more used name ‘Little Venice” on which quickly and easily almost all visitors and tourists got used to. After forming a basic picture of Montenegrin history, we continue for some astonishing photo shots, scenic boat rides, and, a timely lunch break! On our way t the biggest lake in Balkans appears – Skadar Lake (70% in Montenegro, fully protected as National Park - 30% balance being in Albania). Known as a refuge for birds and fish, this place offers a unique insight into Montenegrin wildlife. We stop for lunch, overlooking the river. We continue the picturesque boat ride.

After a relaxing boat ride, we will have lunch at the National Restaurant. After that, we go back on the road that passes by the most famous island in Montenegro, the luxury resort of Sveti Stefan.

SVETI STEFAN

The former fishing village located on the peninsula became an exclusive luxury hotel city 50 years ago. The island itself is natural, but the city was built on it for the first time in the 15th century to protect Turkish and pirate invaders from conquest. We have enough time to enjoy the beauty of the island and record it in a photo. We end our adventure with a scenic drive to your destination.
